What makes you happy?

You know what’s scary? Being honest with yourself about what really, truly makes you happy.
Why is such a simple admission so profoundly unsettling? Because often, allowing all your passions, talents and dreams to manifest into something tangible requires you to change.
What the hell am I talking about?
I’ve been doing film for a couple of years at uni, and fancied that maybe one day I could be the next Quentin Tarantino, or at least be his minion and bring him coffee, donuts and vats of fake blood. But this was never a burning passion; more of an interim goal that I could offhandedly joke with people about at parties. My uni buddies however all seem to be driven by this very real desire to make-it, putting so much time and energy into their degrees that it puts me to shame.
Being unmotivated and coasting along at half-speed can be a real downer, and I think a lot of people must house this innate discord that stems from doing something despite your heart not being in it. It’s a catch-22, because the less you like something, the less you try in the hopes that bludging will make you feel better, yet your lacklustre performance leaves you ultimately unfulfilled.
SO! That’s why i’ve decided…..to study Alternative Medicine! I’ll be doing Naturopathy at a nearby college, and making this decision has totally and utterly unlocked something that i’ve never felt before…I have an inkling it’s this PASSION thing that people go on about!
This means that my musings on health and nutrition may, in time, become qualified by actual, real-life, tro-dat research, and hopefully I can include what i’m learning at college in my blog!
Have you ever asked yourself what it is that really drives you? You might try to discount the answer as a mere whim that could never possibly eventuate, but why else are we here if not to do something that we LOVE! Think about it!
